Kensington Fire Protection District - Building a Culture of Preparedness

When the Kensington Fire Protection District partnered with ALTIVU, the agency faced a communication gap: no social media presence, limited publications, and a heavy reliance on neighbor-to-neighbor word of mouth.

Rather than replacing that local network, ALTIVU built upon it—creating a marketing framework that transformed community trust into a channel for preparedness.

Through a series of neighborhood-based events, emergency readiness became a shared value woven into the community’s culture.

ALTIVU developed a district-wide email alert system for Red Flag Warnings, growing subscriptions to more than ten times the size of the District’s original list. ALTIVU also helped design and promote the Firewise initiative, which expanded from one to twenty-one recognized Firewise USA® communities in just two years.

This approach aligned messaging, design, and field-level engagement to turn awareness into measurable action.

Today, Kensington’s preparedness model demonstrates how strategic communication can drive real resilience—and how ALTIVU helps small agencies command attention where it matters most.
